Monastery of Prophet Elias in Roustika

Twenty km south of Rethymno, high on the hill, with panoramic views, is one of the most historic monasteries of Crete. With a fortified three-aisled basilica architecture with a dome and a unique preserved Venetian bell-along with that of the Arkadi Monastery - it hosts great heirlooms.

Avgoustinian Monastery (Neratze Mosque)

One of the most important Venetian foundations, varied by Hussein Pasha, conqueror of Rethymnon, who added a 33 meter minaret. Today it is a conservatory and a venue for events.

Monastery of Panagia Antifonitria

 It is located in the village of Myriokefala, 29 km southwest of Rethymnon, where the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary of the 18th century and other heirlooms are kept. It took its name from the miraculous way of finding it, which while hidden by the Cretans for protection, she shouted to declare her existence.

Chalevi Monastery at Chromonastiri

It is 12 km south of Rethymno, on the way to Chromonastiri. A Venetian creation, where the monastery church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is preserved with its unique flame-shaped windows. It has been declared as preserved monument of the Greek state.

Monastery of Arkadi (Chanli Monastir)

A monastery that impresses not only for its fortress characteristics, but also for the symbolism that emits as the place of Resistance to the liberation struggle of the Cretan people and more generally in every form of defiance. It is known for the Holocaust of 1866 which created the conditions for the liberation of the island. It is located on a 500 meter high plateau, 23 km south of Rethymnon, and is a monumental architecture of the early years of Venetian domination. In its very interesting museum there is the Holy Naval War, relics of worship, etc.
